A glimpse of 96 years ago. Note in particular the cabbie as they pass the National Gallery, the practically complete absence of women from the streets, the large number of cars in the City, the fabulous Keystone Cops moment, and of course – it was 1913 – the unutterably poignancy of the banner in the final scene.
The film is showing as part of ‘The Big Smoke: Films from a Lost London 1896-1945′, a touring programme of films from the BFI National Archive.

Also some kind of steam-powered road vehicle at about 50s.
